About Insert Modes

One of two Insert Modes is active at any one time within MEGS_Log:

Overwrite: Changes to a boundary between two intervals do not affect the locations of any boundaries lower down the borehole. The boundary change "overwrites" the thickness of the interval immediately underneath.
Insert: Changes to a boundary between intervals results in the same change being made to the locations of any boundaries lower down the borehole. The thickness of the interval immediately underneath the boundary is preserved.

The current Insert Mode is shown in the MEGS_Log status bar - either "OVR" or "INS" respectively.

Note that the Insert Mode also applies when inserting or deleting units.

You can change the Insert Mode by:

Pressing the Insert key
Changing the setting on the View tab in the Options dialog box

When editing boreholes using the mouse you can change the Insert Mode for that action only by holding down the shift key when you start the editing action. If the Insert Mode was "Overwrite", holding down the shift key will make it "Insert". Likewise, if the Insert Mode was "Insert", holding down the shift key will make it "Overwrite". When the shift key is used in this fashion the indicator in the status bar does not change.
