Use the Relabel Sample Numbers dialog to change the sample numbers for a range of units. To display this dialog select the Relabel Sample Numbers command under the Tools menu or click the Relabel Sample Numbers toolbar icon ().
A sample number recognised by MEGS_Log is broken into three parts - an optional alphabetical prefix, a required number (containing only digits) and an optional alphabetical postfix. This dialog box lets you consistently change any of those three parts for the sample numbers in a borehole.
If the Maintain original checkbox for any part is checked then that part of the sample number will be left unchanged. Otherwise you can specify a new prefix, postfix or starting number.
If the Maintain sample order checkbox is not checked, then each subsequent sample number encountered in the hole will be given a number part that is one greater than the number part for the previous sample number. This renumbering always works from the highest (most shallow) unit down. If the checkbox is checked, then the difference between the new number part and the original starting number part is applied as an offset to all subsequent number parts.
For example, for an original initial sample number A01B and a new initial sample number part 11, the sequence of sample numbers down the whole would change as follows:
Original sample number (In order down the hole) |
Maintain order checkbox | |
---|---|---|
Clear | Checked | |
A01B | A11B | A11B |
A02B | A12B | A12B |
A04B | A13B | A14B |
A03B | A14B | A13B |
You can set or alter the width of the number part via the Number field width value. The number part will be padded with leading zeros so that the number of digits in the number part matches this width. If the number part requires more digits than the width the full number is still included - it is not truncated.
If a borehole is currently selected but no units within that borehole are selected then the relabelling happens over all units within that borehole. If a single unit within a borehole is selected then the relabelling happens over all units from that unit down. If more than one unit is selected then the relabelling is limited to that selection. Note that this selection needs to be made prior to displaying the dialog box. For more information on selecting units within a borehole see How to select units.
Sample numbers that don't follow the format recognised by MEGS_Log may not be updated as expected by this dialog box.
